The Good Things of Life Webinar series
This webinar is part of a series three webinars about ways to gain “the good things” of life for people who are marginalised in our society, using the lens of Social Role Valorisation. This series was hosted by Foundations Forum and delivered by accredited teacher of SRV John Armstrong.
What's the big deal about the good things of life?
People aim for different goals when supporting someone who is marginalised: "to be given their rights", "to be empowered", "to have choice", "to reach their full potential". Yet SRV has used the phrase, "the good things of life" for many years now. What is it about the good things of life that SRV claims to be the highest beneficial 'thing' to be aimed for?
What tensions arise when providing formal support in informal environments?
Home and community tend to be informal environments providing freedoms seldom achieved in more formal contexts such as work and educational settings. But when support staff enter these precious informal contexts there can be tensions that arise about what a staff member should do, demand or require. How do residents live with these requirements, and how might staff respond to being asked to do things outside their duties? This webinar recording content considers some of these tensions and provides a high level response that is helpful for both parties in bringing clarity to this dilemma.
How can you prevent people's lives getting lost in the discussion of funding and support arrangements?
This webinar recording provides viewer with a clear framework that assists us to keep people’s (who are marginalised) lives and their needs front and center of our discussions. This will be a powerful aide to anyone planning and seeking funding for support arrangements that are intended to progress and facilitate a person achieving the good things of life.
